Ranking Each Of Randy Orton’s 12 World Title Wins

6. WWE Championship Vs. John Cena (Hell In A Cell 2009)

Randy Orton John Cena Hell In A Cell 2009

Unlike the previous Orton vs. Cena entry, this one benefitted from being fresher when it took place in 2009, and even though it wasn’t necessarily the best instalment of that rivalry, their Hell in a Cell meeting was a decent one, nonetheless.

Taking place when the ‘Voices in his Head’ gimmick was in full swing, Orton was at his slithery, sadistic best here.

He went after Cena’s surgically-repaired neck with a steel chair, before tying him up in the ropes and ruthlessly choking him out. Then, at the finish, he pulled out his patented punt kick to see off the champion and regain the gold.

There was also a nice bit of continuity in that finish. Usually, anyone on the receiving end of the punt kick was ruled out of action for at least a few weeks. Here, though, they ran with the story that since Cena had been working Orton’s leg for much of the match, the punt wasn’t quite as strong as usual. Though it was still powerful enough to score the pinfall, it wasn’t so powerful that it would put Cena on the shelf, therefore allowing them to prolong the feud.
