Ranking Every AEW World Championship Match From Worst To Best
10. Jon Moxley Vs. Brian Cage (Fight For The Fallen 2020)
Jon Moxley and Brian Cage's World Championship scrap at Fight For The Fallen had loads of hype. The promos alone from Taz built the story between them more than you could imagine. After all, the majority of the story here was 'The Machine' had won the Casino Ladder Match to earn the title opportunity.
In short, it needed something else to sell the story other than 'two hosses trying to murder one another'. The ECW icon did everything he needed to help the in-ring narrative flow.
That's not to say the pair didn't attempt murder on each other, of course, as they did. The former Shield man targeted Cage's bicep, whereas 'Mr. GMSI' decimated Mox with every move he did, be it big or small. In this instance, a chinlock was just as impactful as a German suplex simply because it was being performed by Brian Cage.
It worked out perfectly in the end, too. Cage kicked out of not one, but two Paradigm Shifts, leading to Taz being forced to toss the towel in on his behalf as Moxley cinched in a number of arm-based submissions. As a result, Jon marched forward as a strong champion, while the recently-crowned FTW Champion left the night without a blot on his aura.
Even today, Cage is still a dominative force in AEW, and it's all because he's booked to look so strongly, it doesn't matter if he wins, loses, or draws.
