Ranking Every Brock Lesnar SummerSlam Match - From Worst To Best

1. Brock Lesnar Vs. The Rock (2002)

But while Cena vs. Lesnar had provided us with a moment we thought we might never see, SummerSlam 2002 provided us with a moment that we knew for sure we had never borne witness to before.

In just his 22nd official televised match, and with no more than a few months of main roster experience on his side, Brock Lesnar defeated one of the biggest names in WWE history to become the company’s youngest champion of all time. And it’s a record that still stands to this day.

Lesnar had ploughed through any and all challengers in his first few months with the company. His most recent win, over Hulk Hogan, had granted him number one contendership to the Rock’s title at SummerSlam. And even though he had the momentum on his side, surely the company weren’t going to go all in on the “Next Big Thing” so early in his career?

Well, as it happens, of course they were.

Now, I’m not saying this was the best technical showing of all of Lesnar’s SummerSlam appearances—although it was still a fairly decent match. But the main reason behind this one ranking at the top of the pile is the historical significance behind it.

Not only did Lesnar set the record for being the youngest champion in history—and not only did he do so by beating the Rock, of all people—but this would set the tone for an incredibly successful career both in and out of WWE.

Of course, you may well disagree with me, in which case please feel free to comment below and let me know how you think we should be ranking Brock Lesnar’s SummerSlam matches.
