Title: WWE Championship

Match Time: 23:19

Poor Sheamus. Despite being the reigning WWE Champion and defeating John Cena to remain top champ of the company, the Irishman was simply an afterthought in this match.

Cena’s real feud at the time was with a white hot Nexus stable who were tearing through WWE, genuinely looking like world-beaters and a pack of future champions.

This was before their sensational SummerSlam burial. They were the talk of the town, and they were the talk of this match too.

The Nexus were doing everything they could to ruin Cena’s day.

Bolt cutters were introduced, Wade Barrett was trying to steal the keys to the cage door from the referee, who rather amusingly threw them into the crowd just to keep them away from him.

Super Cena was doing all he could to fight the odds stacked against him, as they always were in his prime, but the numbers were too overwhelming.

He and Sheamus crafted a solid match before the interference-laden ending, which saw Big Match John distracted and held back just long enough for Sheamus to scurry out of the cage and retain.

The match was good, if a little unspectacular, but it was the story of The Nexus that elevates this one. It was another occasion for them to shine, to mess with the status quo and ruin everything they could get to.
