Ranking Every WCW Champion In History - From Worst To Best
5. Bret Hart
When Bret Hart left WWE for WCW in 1997, it was easily the most infamous defection of the entire Monday Night Wars. Granted that was largely due to Vince McMahon’s handling of the situation and the way in which Bret bowed out in Montreal, but controversy aside, the bottom line here was that WCW were inheriting one of the biggest names in the industry.
Unfortunately though, they dropped the ball. Despite being the hot commodity that he was, WCW didn’t give Bret the championship until December of 1999—more than two years after he came on board.
He’d shortly capture a second championship just 27 days later, but that win came the very same day he’d been stripped of the belt in the first place, so essentially this just one reign masquerading as two.
That may not make for the most illustrious of histories as
far as his WCW career goes, but for everything else that the Hitman has achieved
in the wrestling business, it just felt wrong placing him any lower than the
top five of this list.
