Sorry Michael Cole, but I’m going to have to disagree with you on your claim that Goldberg was the greatest WCW Champion in history.
Don’t get me wrong, Goldberg was a great champion. But the best of all time? I’m not so sure.
Somewhat surprisingly, the former NFL man only won the WCW World Heavyweight Championship on one occasion. Of course, that one occasion arrived during the midst of his hyperbolic 173-0 undefeated streak when he was absolutely white hot. Plus, the actual title change took place in front of a record-setting crowd on Nitro with 41,412 fans packed inside the Georgia Dome.
For those reasons alone, Goldberg’s sole WCW title run will go down as one of the most memorable of all time—not to mention the fact that it clocked in at 174 days; the longest reign of any one-time WCW Champion in history.
Still, despite all those records, it wasn’t quite enough to see Goldberg edge out these next three megastars…
