Ranking Every WCW Champion In History - From Worst To Best
17. Chris Benoit
Obviously if this list were based exclusively on in-ring ability, Chris Benoit would be ranked considerably higher.
However, we’ve also got to consider the fact that Benoit only managed one reign as WCW Champion, and not only that but he held the gold for just a single day. As a result, it’s difficult to rank him too much higher than this, regardless of how good a wrestler he was.
The brief reign began at the Souled Out 2000 pay-per-view when Benoit defeated Sid Vicious, and ended the next day when a dubious finish supposedly resulted in the title being held up. That explanation was all just for show though; the reality was that Benoit was jumping ship to WWE.
Making him champion in the first place was widely regarded as a last-ditch effort to keep Benoit in WCW, but clearly it was too little too late.
