Wrestling doesn't always reward hard work, but it did when Big E became WWE Champion. The September 13th, 2021 episode of Raw ended with the New Day member cashing in Money in the Bank to defeat Bobby Lashley and take his place on the throne.

Fans were praying that Big E would get the same treatment as his pal Kofi Kingston. Unfortunately, LangstonMania was not running wild. He defeated Lashley two weeks later inside a steel cage and then fought him again to a no-contest. E made his sole successful pay-per-view defence against Drew McIntyre in Saudi Arabia, and then beat Austin Theory in a random match the next night on Raw.

It took over a month for Big E's next title defence and, sadly, it was at Day 1. As we already explained, the champ was sacrificed at the altar of Brock Lesnar, eerily mirroring Kofi Kingston's title loss three years earlier.

We will always have the glorious moment of the cash-in, but WWE clearly never saw much in Big E as a world champion. The fact that this will probably be his only reign with the belt makes this even sadder.
