For the longest time, Triple H had been seen as one of WWE's measuring sticks. 'The Game' was the greatest heel of his generation, and the man who had to be overcome to place a superstar at the top of the mountain. For John Cena's first-ever WrestleMania main event at WrestleMania 22, there could only be one opponent fitting enough for WWE's new golden boy to cement his spot as 'The Face That Runs The Place'.

John Cena walked into WrestleMania 22 as WWE Champion for the first time. Both men had memorable entrances, with Cena enjoying his famous "gangster squad" arrival in Illinois, flanked by future rival CM Punk as an extra, while Triple H accentuated his role as WWE's alpha male by arriving on a throne, dressed in Conan the Barbarian-style regalia.

The match itself was adequate. Neither men would have it on a list of their best-ever matches, but it certainly did its job of setting John Cena up as the future of WWE. Cena would win the match by making Triple H tap out to the STF, passing the test of being a legitimate superstar and worthy of the headline slot at WrestleMania
