Shawn Michaels' run as WWE Champion ensured at least one banger on top for most of 1996, and a good-to-great midcard held firm in the face of WCW's commercial dominance.

To that end, 1996 holds up remarkably well on pay-per-view, save for the disastrous In Your House: Beware Of Dog. The building being plunged into darkness after the opener f*cked everything, to the point where planned main event between 'HBK' and The British Bulldog fell apart under the weight of a night gone wrong. The make-good matches two nights later weren't a lot to write home about either.
