Rebooking WWE Great American Bash 2005: 8 Ways To Make It Better

7. Chris Benoit Vs. Christian - United States Title

Booker's original opponent Christian was trying to establish himself on Smackdown after switching from Raw in the draft. He'd recently experienced one of the most successful periods of his career, putting in great performances both in the ring and on the mic. These performances are so good that he was placed into a spring feud with John Cena and Chris Jericho over the WWE Title. He didn't win, of course, but he proved he could hang in that setting. Instead of going straight after the World Heavyweight Title on the blue brand, he would target US Champion Chris Benoit. The Rabid Wolverine had also recently made the switch and their match, although it had happened recently on Raw, would look fresh in the new surroundings. Benoit faced the not very good Orlando Jordan at the real 2005 Bash in a match that was average for Benoit's standards (but actually one of OJ's best matches ever). Benoit would be coming in as champion here, having recently defeated Jordan on Smackdown. Orlando's interference would make sure that Captain Charisma left with the gold after a 15 minute match, setting up a 3 or 4 way outing at SummerSlam.
