Rebooking WWE SummerSlam 2003: 7 Ways To Make It Better

4. Randy Orton Vs. Shawn Michaels

Randy Orton was really starting to hit his stride in mid-to-late 2003, following a couple of depressing injury setbacks. The newly-dubbed 'Legend Killer' was getting a decent push in the upper midcard as a member of Evolution. At SummerSlam 2003, he had a good showing in the Elimination Chamber main event. What Orton really needed was victories against top singles guys. The WWE booked Orton to go over Shawn Michaels at Unforgiven a month after SummerSlam. Michaels was also involved in the Chamber match and looked good but it was clear by this point that he should be being used to work with the stars of tomorrow. HBK and RKO had a good match at Unforgiven and the result (although it was a cheap finish) certainly raised Orton's profile. So why not do it at SummerSlam, a show that would be seen by a lot more people than Unforgiven would? This would be a 15-20 minute match with a clean Orton victory.
