The intertwined careers of Roddy Piper and Hulk Hogan would once again cross paths a decade later in WCW, when Piper showed up to crash Hollywood Hogans parade. The nWo was running roughshod over the southern-based promotion, and Piper came in to shake things up a little. Pipers appearance at Halloween Havoc 1996 was a big deal to fans. Even though it was two 40-something wrestlers rekindling a feud from another promotion, it was two of the biggest icons in wrestling squaring off for the first time in a decade. Piper and Hogan would meet in the main event of Starrcade 1996 (WCWs equivalent to WrestleMania at the time), and shockingly, Hot Rod would fend off the Giant and manage to lock Hogan in the sleeper, putting him out to a huge ovation from the crowd. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grnn_M8GKe0 The problem is, WCW was never clear on whether Hogans World Championship title was on the line. Even announcer Dusty Rhodes wasnt sure, which led some to believe Piper had won his first world title. Sadly, it wasnt to be.
