Sami Zayn Injured And Set For Surgery

NXT Takeover Unstoppable could have been Zayn's last NXT appearance.

Sami Zayn is understood to be getting surgery next month and will likely have a while out injured, reports Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. This is following the brutal beat down that Kevin Owens put on Zayn during the main event of NXT Takeover Unstoppable. That's the storyline for him going out injured. The actual injury is likely to be related to the shoulder that bothered him in the past and most recently flared up during the Raw match with John Cena. The fact that it requires surgery is not good. It has been such a stop / start year for Zayn, with physical issues causing him to sit on the sidelines more than he'd like. Hopefully surgery sorts him out and allows him to get back soon with a full time schedule. It is even possible that upon returning, Zayn will go straight to the main Raw roster. He's been in NXT for a long time and there's really nothing left for him to accomplish there. His peak was his NXT Title win over Neville last December. The feud with Kevin Owens has been good, but it has ran its course, with Owens now lining up matches with Finn Balor and Samoa Joe.
