Sting Makes Shock Return At WrestleDream (AEW News)
It's Stiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiing... at AEW WrestleDream.
With Darby Allin and Jon Moxley serving as the WrestleDream main event last night, that I Quit bout saw Sting make his shock return to AEW.
As well as the usual violence one would expect from Darby and Mox, this match also featured a taser to Allin's balls, bamboo skewers under his fingernails, and eventually we had Moxley and his Death Riders crew trying to drown Allin in a fish tank. It was at this point that the arena lights went out, and when they came back on, Sting was standing in the ring with his trusty baseball bat.
The Stinger fought off Moxley's Death Riders pals, smashed the fish tank with his bat, left the bat for Darby Allin to use, and then carried Marina Shafir to the back. With that, Darby hit Moxley several times with the bat, wrapped his AEW flag around the former AEW World Champion's throat, landed a Scorpion Death Drop, a Coffin Drop, and then made Mox quit with the Scorpion Death Lock. Of course, Sting retired from the ring at Revolution 2024, 18 months ago, where he teamed with Allin in a win over the Young Bucks.
Darby Allin was left holding the AEW flag as WrestleDream went off the air, bringing an end to yet another crammed, hectic AEW PPV.
Elsewhere at WrestleDream, 'Hangman' Adam Page retained the AEW World Title against Samoa Joe, but Page was attacked post-match by Joe and his Opps buddies in an apparent heel turn. Kris Statlander beat 'Timeless' Toni Storm to remain the AEW Women's Champion, though she's now got Mercedes Moné lined up for Full Gear next month. And on that topic, the CEO is now 11 Belts Moné after winning the interim ROH Women's TV Championship from Mina Shirakawa at WrestleDream. AEW Tag Team Champions Brodido kept hold of their gold against Kazuchika Okada and Konosuke Takeshita; the Hurt Syndicate defeated the Demand to become the new #1 contenders for the AEW Trios Titles; Jurassic Express nabbed themselves a cool $500,000 by beating the Young Bucks; Kyle Fletcher fended off the threat of Mark Briscoe to retain his TNT Championship; and Jamie Hayter beat Thekla is the show's hard-hitting opener. That said, the pre-show battle between FTR and JetSpeed rumbled on through until the PPV's opening minutes, with Dax and Cash getting the win.
