Standing in stark contrast to its PPV predecessor, Survivor Series 2021 was a perplexing evening where a glorified pizza commercial produced the most obvious battle royal winner in history, a pair of wins for SmackDown bookended the most lopsided 'Battle for Brand Supremacy' in three years, WWE celebrated the 25th anniversary of The Rock, who couldn't even make it to the show and the entire roster took a backseat to an egg (don't ask). While the card did produce another classic between RAW Women's Champion Becky Lynch and SmackDown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair, the WWE and Universal champions rightfully put on the match of the evening.

In a titanic clash that drew several parallels to Roman Reigns' confrontation with then-WWE Champion Drew McIntyre the year prior, 'The Tribal Chief' defended his 'Island of Relevancy' against the encroaching WWE Champion Big E.

For the better part of 25 minutes, 'The Head of the Table' and 'The Powerhouse of Positivity' unleashed their entire respective arsenals. Incredibly, a barrage of Big Endings, a surplus of spears, a surprise Stretch Muffler and even a Rock Bottom in reserve couldn't get the job done for either side. Fortunately for Reigns, an errant knee striking the ring steps, a desperation chop block and an emphatic final spear closed the deal.

While a victory for Big E would have paid dividends in making his WWE Championship run every bit as critical as that of Reigns, the bout itself more than effectively demonstrated he belongs in the same conversation.
