The Best Match From Every 2021 WWE PPV
3. Edge Vs. Seth Rollins (Crown Jewel 21 October 2021)
It's become something of a cliche to say that superstars "leave everything in the ring" during an exhaustive performance. Sometimes, however, there's just no better way to put it.
In easily the best of the much maligned Saudi Arabia PPVs, Universal Champion Roman Reigns and Brock Lesnar wrote the latest chapter in the ongoing Paul Heyman custody battle. Drew McIntyre and Big E had a wildly underrated collision in the co-main event for the WWE Championship. Xavier Woods became King of the Ring in 2021's best bit of WWE fan service, three of the best women's wrestlers on the planet put on a clinic and Riddle entered the ring on a camel. Dubious venue aside, there was very little to dislike from this particular instalment.
But nothing came close to topping the thundering resolution of Edge and Seth Rollins in Hell In A Cell.
After three months of foiled title opportunities, ambulance rides, Brood baths and home invasions, 'The Visionary' and 'The Rated R Superstar' underlined their trilogy with 27 minutes of unrelenting violence. Sparing no equalisers, Rollins went for the kill while sandwiching Edge's triple-fused neck into a steel chair for an attempted Stomp. To everyone's (particularly Edge's) immense fortune, 'The Ultimate Opportunist' evaded with a steel pipe aided Crossface followed by a decisive chain-aided Stomp through a chair of his own.
While most PPVs are built on first impressions and lasting impressions, placing Edge-Rollins III in the opening slot ensured Crown Jewel 2021 gave us both.
