The Complete A-Z Of The Undertaker
14. M - Ministry Of Darkness
The 'Attitude Era' reinvention of The Undertaker saw him embrace a satanic cult leader determined on absolute power within the organisation.
It began with the usual insanity of the day. Buried Alive in a match with Steve Austin having attempted to embalm 'Stone Cold' weeks earlier, he remerged as a malevolent ruler of those who embraced his darkness. Unfortunately, that only included perennial losers like Mideon and Viscera, but by adding the Brood and The Acolytes to the group, they at least had strength in numbers.
First setting his sights on the McMahon family as he built his empire of minions, he then revealed an alliance with Vince and Shane as his Ministry merged with their 'Corporation' group in an attempt to take the WWE Title from Stone Cold Steve Austin.
The character's final arc was an odd master/pupil tag team with The Big Show, which included lengthy segments where Undertaker would discuss his abusive tough love of the giant newcomer that apparently mirrored a real life relationship the two had forged in order to 'smarten' Show up to WWE's locker-room etiquette.
