The Forbidden Lore Of WWE's Becky Lynch

In wrestling, with its lack of an offseason, sometimes the best way of getting over or turning babyface is to go away for a while. This was especially true in the case of Rebecca Knox - but she proved that her legend was real in her breakthrough WWE match. As ever, there was an embarrassment to endure first.

When Becky did return to pro wrestling, she did so as part of Triple H’s nascent NXT. NXT was meant to be the credible alternative to the main roster - and yet, after a few rounds of the Largo house show loop, Becky made her televised debut on June 26, 2014 by first performing an Irish jig.

WWE also stressed that she was another cliche, the fighting Irish, when Becky put her dukes up as part of her appeal to the crowd. Her attire was never going to be anything other than emerald green. As you’d expect, Becky was mortified by this idea and her performance of it, but in an early hint that she was undeniable, Becky was actually very likeable in a dorky way.

Becky truly announced herself in a head-turning technical stunner opposite Sasha Banks at TakeOver: Unstoppable on May 20, 2015. Who knew the women could go this hard, and with this level of mechanical sophistication?

The SHIMMER fandom, that’s who. This article could not have been written without their devout passion keeping its name alive. Thank you.
