The Greatest Match From Every WWE WrestleMania

8. WrestleMania XXVIII: The Undertaker Vs Triple H

It was billed as the end of an era, and while an ill-advised match in Saudia Arabia six years later took the shine off that title, this Hell In A Cell clash was an appropriately grandiose way to cap off a feud between two of the company’s biggest and most dependable performers.

The standard singles match the previous year may have been a little more technically proficient, but Taker and Triple H went to war in Florida’s Sun Life Stadium. Both men had a few miles on the clock, but they work that into the match - they know each other inside and out, and must find innovative ways to put their opponent away.

Upping the ante further is special guest referee Shawn Michaels, whose long history with both performers adds substantially to the drama. Michaels makes his presence felt throughout the match: he sells the notion that Taker and HHH are willing to do dreadful things to one another, wearing the concern on his face throughout.

The match is played at a deliberate pace and the in-ring work isn’t flashy, but the storytelling is superb, and the sight of the three legends helping one another to the back is triumphant, and undeniably earned.
