31. WrestleMania V: The Brain Busters Vs Strike Force

In one of the most colourful periods of professional wrestling, two hard blokes with no gimmick stand out. The Brain Busters - Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard - have a super simple gimmick: they’re a pair of no-nonsense grapplers who’ll kick the snot out of you for fun - and it works wonders during this often cartoonish era.

Anderson and Blanchard are two of the industry’s great workers, and they bring that real fight feel to the match as they crash around the ring and rely on smart tactics and ruthless teamwork, under the watchful eye of manager Bobby Heenan (resplendent in lilac lycra).

Strike Force, meanwhile, fall apart. After Rick Martel is accidentally socked by Tito Santana, he storms away from ringside, leaving the fallen Santana to be picked apart mercilessly by the wily veterans. One nasty looking spike piledriver later and the face team is no more.

The realism and steel the Brain Busters bring to the table is majorly refreshing, and with Bobby Heenan (who is absolutely all over this event) in their corner, the weight of the encounter is emphasised further.

It’s good old fashioned stuff by a collection of reliable hands.
