The Greatest Match From Every WWE WrestleMania

30. WrestleMania VI: Dusty Rhodes & Sapphire Vs Randy Savage & Sherri

As the ‘80s made way for the ‘90s, former WCW booker Dusty Rhodes was out of work. In one of the all-time most delightful acts of pettiness, Vince McMahon gave him a spot on the roster – on the proviso he dressed in unflattering polka dots and took on the gimmick of the “common man”, filming vignettes in which the American Dream unblocked toilets and carried out other work Vince felt was beneath him.

Being a man of unsurpassed charisma, Dusty got this over, and wound up pitting his humble persona against the Macho King Randy Savage. Partnered with Sapphire (a middle-aged woman and real-life Rhodes superfan), he took on the heel team of Savage and Sherri in one of the most charming encounters in WWE history.

WrestleMania VI is an event of ludicrous scale and pomp, fitting for a match as gaudy as this one. Dusty reminds us all of his abilities as worker, especially for a man of his size and age, and Savage plays the arrogant heel beautifully. It ends with Dusty, Sapphire, and Miss Elizabeth dancing in the ring for really quite a long time.
