The Major Problem About WWE's "New Era" Nobody Wants To Talk About
The first year or so of Triple H's creative tenure can best be described as solid.
Outside of the jaw-dropping and captivating return of CM Punk at Survivor Series 2023, a lot of 'The King of King's booking has ranged from predictable-to-rather-good.
However, for a guy who once helped book some of the strongest women's programs North America has ever known down on the black and gold brand, he hasn't half dropped the ball with the main roster's women's division at times.
From Rhea Ripley's surprisingly forgettable Women's World Championship run, to Becky Lynch and Trish Stratus' never-ending and mostly dull war, to the eternally half-arsed booking of the tag division, 2023 was often an exasperating one for the stars who continually do what they can with the little they are given.
Sure, 'The Man' still found a way to effectively elevate a number of NXT talents, Ripley and Zelina Vega took part in a magical bit of business in Puerto Rico, Damage CTRL have done their best to keep folks glued to their inevitable implosion, and Bianca Belair & Charlotte Flair both predictably brought their A-game when the lights were brightest.
But, no matter how much WWE try to tell you otherwise by creating World title straps that match the ones carried around by Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns, their consistently disenchanting actions speak far louder.
And in 2024, Trips' "new era" has picked right up where he left off, too.
Just look at the way poor Bayley has been completely shoved to one side in the wake of what should have been one of the biggest stories of the year.
'The Role Model's record-breaking Royal Rumble victory, bolstered by that aforementioned increasingly compelling Damage CTRL saga, should have certainly resulted in the Horsewoman being in the main event mix coming into 'Mania XL - as pointed out by the Punker.
After not even appearing on the Rumble or WrestleMania posters but then finding herself at the centre of a number of engaging Damage CTRL developments on SmackDown recently, though, absolutely zero respect has been put on Bayley's name and her incoming clash with former pal IYO SKY.
At time of writing, it looks like their long-running story is set to be paid off in a mid-card showdown thanks to Rocky's return and Cody's U-turn.
Just what every star dreams of after winning the hardest match of the year, right?
It's not just the Women's Rumble that has been completely undermined in 2024 either...
