9. The Miz Vs. Zack Ryder -SmackDown (Apr 7, 2016)
The Miz was merely an afterthought in the Intercontinental Championship Ladder match at WrestleMania 32, and although he stacked up a few notable victories in the weeks preceding the pay-per-view, he was not at all a threat to the title. He had his hands on the strap until he was pushed off the top of the ladder by Zack Ryder, who went on the win the gold in shocking fashion.
What wasn't so shocking, however, was Miz beating Ryder for the belt the next night on Raw, albeit with help from his returning wife, Maryse. To see The Long Island Iced Z's Cinderella story end so suddenly was definitely a downer, but on the bright side, it did mark the beginning of a career resurgence for The Awesome One.
Before he went on to defend the belt as many times as he did in the next six months, his first test came days later on the Apr. 7 edition of SmackDown, where Ryder invoked his rematch clause for the championship. Granted, Maryse interfered once again, but only after an entertaining affair between Ryder and Miz that saw the latter successfully maintain his possession of the prestigious prize and embark on his "never-ending" Intercontinental Championship World Tour.
