2. Magnus (Bound For Glory 2013)
By 2013, the cracks within TNA management were already starting to show. Wrestlers were leaving left and right, but the absence of established stars gave Magnus a prime opportunity to rise above the rest of the pack and cement himself as a main event player. He had all the tools to be a TNA World Heavyweight Champion and now he had the chance to prove it during the Bound for Glory Series. Despite leading the series with the most amount of points, he ultimately fell to AJ Styles in the finals of the tournament at No Surrender. That didn't deter the England native's momentum one bit, though, as he continued to stack up victories and challenge Sting to a one-on-one match at Bound for Glory. He had to show the masses that he was worthy of hanging with the very best the business had to offer and a match with Sting on the grand stage would surely get him noticed. Similar to Sting's aforementioned outing against Samoa Joe, his match with Magnus didn't quite meet the lofty expectations of fans. Whether it was because the crowd was lousy or because Sting was wearing a t-shirt for the milestone match, they just didn't click. Regardless, Magnus locked The Icon in a cloverleaf submission hold, forcing him to tap out. It wasn't long after that he would win the TNA World Heavyweight Championship for the first time, so this victory was exactly what he needed to get to the next level in TNA. Magnus has since said in interviews that the original result of the match would have seen him get beat, but Sting was on his way out of the organization and wanted to put over the rising rookie in a major way. That's classy stuff from the real-life Steve Borden.
