Paul Bearer's most evil ploy in his war with The Undertaker came at In Your House: Badd Blood, when he introduced "The Phenom's" younger brother, Kane. At that show, Kane cost The Undertaker victory in the first-ever Hell in a Cell match, and in subsequent weeks he continued to make his older brother his target.

Still, no matter what Kane did, The Undertaker swore that he would never fight the brother he didn't even know was still alive. What was Kane to do, then, but raise the stakes? At the 1998 Royal Rumble, Michaels and Undertaker battled in a casket match, and Kane once again cost his brother the bout. This time, though, Kane punctuated his assault by locking Undertaker in the casket and setting it on fire.

Despite the fact that the casket was revealed to be empty after the fire was extinguished, Undertaker was absent from WWE for more than a month. When he did return, it was in a grand spectacle on Raw - he appeared in a coffin that was struck by lightning, then sat up and let his brother know that he was finally granting his request for a match... and that Kane would rest in peace.
