The WORST Wrestling Moment Every Year (1989 - 2025)

17. 2009 | Dixie Carter Addresses The Locker Room

It was tempting to award Jenna Maresca Vs. Sharmell the top dishonour, because it was horrific in concept and execution. Hiring a non-wrestler to work what was inevitably going to be a pathetic disaster of a match in order to draw “casual fans” - when she wasn’t even a big or talented celebrity - was a pointless, almost hateful endeavour. It was also very funny, too entertaining to summon any real bile over.

The nod however must go to Dixie Carter’s infamous locker room address. This was a display of jaw-dropping idiocy, ego, and narcissism. Even if you’re a cynical misanthrope who takes a very dim view of people generally, you still cannot believe somebody would be so f*cking stupid and arrogant.

Ahead of Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff arriving, TNA President Dixie Carter addressed the locker room and broadcast it on national television.

The general consensus about TNA was, and will perhaps forever remain: talented roster ruined by imbeciles in management. This is essentially the company’s “Then, Now, Forever, Together’.

And yet, Carter said it was “time for us to swing for the fences, it really is” before demanding her roster “step up” - as if they were phoning it in the ring, and not being kidnapped by ninjas in a storyline with no payoff.

This was very much a “no point watching this crap anymore” moment, because how could you continue, knowing that the decision-maker had no clue whatsoever what the problem was?

This was the coach literally losing the dressing room right in front of your very eyes, only, they were also the owner, so there was nothing to be done.
