TNA And AAA Interested In Signing Alberto Del Rio After WWE Firing

New details on 'slapping' altercation that resulted in Del Rio's firing.

Alberto Del Rio could be on his way to TNA or AAA, with f4Wonline reporting that both wrestling promotions are interested in the star's signature. However, the same site also reports that a 90 day non-compete clause is believed to be in place. Details are still sketchy, so that might not necessarily be the case though. By terminating Del Rio's contract, WWE may have nullified the non-compete agreement, leaving Del Rio available for a shock brand jump to TNA. TNA were quick to react toward a potential shock opportunity. Reportedly they tried to contact Del Rio in the immediacy of his WWE release, with a serious offer for him to become the next TNA Champion. That might hold some appeal for Del Rio, it would be a way of sticking it to WWE. As for TNA, they'd get a major star and angle that would become the most talked about story in wrestling. The trouble is that they're low on money and potentially without a TV station in a matter of weeks. Del Rio could just as easily weigh them down as much as he could buoy them. AAA seem a more likely option. The company is currently executing a long term plan for expansion into the USA. Del Rio is the perfect brand face for that strategy, he fits with AAA's Mexican tradition but also possesses American fame. Even before his firing, he'd been rumoured as a potential AAA signing for when his WWE contract expired. Aged 37 he might consider retiring, but limited dates and maximum money will likely sway him to wrestling for someone. The reason for Del Rio's firing is rumoured to be a slapping incident. F4wonline reports that the star slapped a social media manager, who had joked that Del Rio should be washing the dirty plates in catering. Apparently someone had asked for his plate to be cleaned, and the social media manager said that was Del Rio's job. The Mexican found out about this and confronted the manager, who simply smiled and refused to say sorry. Del Rio then slapped him. The connotations around this supposed joke could end up being the bigger story. Did Del Rio see it as a racial dig? Was the manager implying that a dish washing job should be done by a Mexican? If Del Rio seen it this way, he might have grounds for his own complaint. He could end up challenging the basis of his termination, citing an incident of racism. At this stage the details are still emerging, but this story could end up even bigger than it currently is.
