LA Knight might be one of the hottest acts in WWE at the moment, but the leading Money in the Bank 2023 contender has revealed he expected to be fired by the market-leading promotion in 2022.

Interviewed by Chris Van Vliet, Knight stated that he "had been saved from being thrown off a cliff," having anticipated being let go after "some things happened." Fortunately, a call from somebody within WWE reassured him of his status.

Said Knight (h/t Wrestling Observer/Figure Four Online):-

"Well, let me just go ahead and say this. I'm pretty sure I was fired and it just hadn't officially happened yet. Without getting into too many details, some things happened, I don't remember what it was, but some things happened. And then I had gotten a FaceTime: ‘Hey, you know, we want to keep you around. We want to do this, this, that, whatever.' And, okay, cool. Good. So somehow I had been saved from being thrown off the cliff. At least this is my interpretation of it. Maybe I'm incorrect. I don't know."

After a successful NXT run, Knight moved to WWE's main roster as Max Dupri in May 2022, debuting the Maximum Male Models stable. This was apparently a product of WWE decreeing he was "too old" to be an in-ring talent at 40.

A meeting with Paul 'Triple H' Levesque saw the Dupri character binned, with the LA Knight gimmick returning by September. Now, Knight is one of the most over people on WWE's roster, commanding immense crowd reactions whenever he appears - and walking into Saturday's Money in the Bank premium live event as a leading contender for the titular men's bout.
