PWInsider is reporting that Vince McMahon privately made the decision to retire from WWE approx one week ago.

The now-former WWE boss (which is still strange to type) personally made the final call "around 10 days ago". Then, he informed those closest to him of his decision and plans were quickly put in place to have the likes of Stephanie McMahon, Triple H and Nick Khan assume more power.

PWInsider's sources behind the scenes in the company told them that "shockwaves are still registering within WWE HQ and beyond". Most are struggling to imagine the organisation without Vince at the helm, but that's the reality now.

Concurrent reports from Fightful Select claim that Bruce Prichard will assume "Vince McMahon’s television duties moving forward". In the short-term though, Prichard will receive "some direction" from his old boss so he can settle into the role.

So, there you have it - McMahon made his decision 10 days ago, then made it concrete just days later backstage. That's when WWE started formalising a plan to publicly announce Vince's retirement and all of the other management shakeups that were happening because of it.
