Vince McMahon's 10 Biggest Failures

3. The Invasion

WCW Alliance
WWE

Undoubtedly his biggest failure within the pro wrestling business, the invasion angle should have set McMahon up for at least another decade of ratings dominance. Fans had salivated over the war between WCW and WWE, dreaming of matches like Stone Cold vs. Goldberg, Undertaker vs. Sting and DX vs. NWO. Yes, we kinda got that last one, but it was inside a microcosm of why McMahon dropped the ball on purchasing his competition.

As soon as Shane McMahon revealed himself to be the new owner of WCW, millions of dollars were flushed away. Instead of having folks with actual WCW ties lead the rebellion against McMahonland, it became just another extension of the WWE’s favorite storyline: McMahon family drama. WCW’s roster was merged with ECW’s roster to form a stable known as The Alliance, led by the face of the WWF, Stone Cold. The much-anticipated fantasy warfare turned into a five-month squash by the real-life victor.

It was the most devastating storyline in wrestling history as millions of fans who watched WCW simply stopped watching altogether.
