What REALLY Happened To WWE's 16 Tallest Wrestlers Ever?
2. Andre the Giant (7'4)
Known For: You were waiting on true great Andre The Giant to show up on this list, weren't you? Everybody clicking knew he'd be here. That's a guarantee. Andre is inarguably the most famous big man WWE has ever signed to a deal, and that may never change. He'd already worked a special career before going heel in 1987 for a run opposite money-making machine Hulk Hogan at WrestleMania III, but most recall that period of Andre's career with a smile.
Simply put, he was a trailblazer and a cartoon character come to life.
What Happened To Him: Being a literal giant caught up with Andre. By the mid-to-late-1980s, he was having a hellish time even getting around the place. Travelling was even harder than before (imagine being stuffed into cars or sitting on planes - even with extra leg room - at his size?!), and various health issues turned him from proud 'Eighth Wonder Of The World' to miserable, pained and broken down old warhorse who wasn't long for the world.
Then, in 1993, Andre passed away in his sleep whilst staying at a hotel in Paris. It was a sad ending for somebody so larger than life, but The Giant's legacy lived on through WWE's work. In fact, there's a giant mural of Andre at WWE's headquarters, and the company commissioned a statue in his memory too.
Andre's hulking 7'4 frame looked like it was shrinking by the end of his career. He was forced to stoop over due to the pain of even walking, and The Giant often needed the ropes to keep him upright during matches. It was a depressing visual, but he's now at peace.
