Who REALLY Carried WWE Every Year (1985-2026)
33. 1994 (Owen Hart)
Expecting someone else here?
Yes, Bret could've easily been in this spot thanks to his sparkling work throughout 1994. Special mention must go to the 'Hitman' vs. The 1-2-3 Kid on the 11 July '94 episode of Monday Night Raw too. That was one of the best TV bouts all year, and should still be in the conversation for best WWE TV match ever.
Owen takes centre stage for '94 though. He kickstarted a feud with Bret at Royal Rumble (after kicking his leg out from under his leg, no less), then beat his elder sibling in a scorching opener at WrestleMania X. Honestly, Madison Square Garden received quite the belated 1993 Christmas gift from Santa with that one - it was an absolute clinic from 2 of the best to ever do it.
Then, in the summer, Owen won King Of The Ring and worked a superb steel cage match vs. Bret at SummerSlam. On the KOTR undercard, he also had a refreshing sprint vs. 1-2-3 Kid. What's that old saying? 'If you can't work a good match with Kid, then you can't work a good match with anybody'. Something like that.
Owen was on fire in '94, and he defo deserves the plaudits. Being fair, even Bret would probably step off to the side and admit that his baby bro was 1994's best. Some might say that Owen was a supporting act for Bret, but this fan views it the other way around, and there's something cool about that.
Someone should've told him to wipe that spit/snot/whatever from his face before promos, by the way.
