Why It's Time To FINALLY Kill The Worst Trope In Wrestling

3. The 'Jannetty' Of A Tag Team

To hone in on the title of this piece, the wrestling trope that needs to die is labelling a wrestler as the 'Jannetty' of their tag team.

Of course, this has recently been referenced on NXT programming, where the split of Toxic Attraction has seen Jacy Jayne insult former partner Gigi Dolin by calling her the Marty Jannetty of their tandem. Given how Shawn Michaels nowadays runs NXT, one could well say that this was an unnecessary comment that was green-lit by HBK, but it's not the first time that WWE and wrestling fans have used the name Jannetty to throw shade at a performer.

With many fans thinking that the Street Profits could well be on the verge of a split, already online discourse has declared how Angelo Dawkins will be the Jannetty of this team when they go their separate ways. Stevie Ray, Rick Steiner, Charlie Haas, D'Von Dudley, Chavo Guerrero, Bart Gunn, Joey Mercury, Matt Hardy, and even Chad Gable have all been labelled by fans as the Marty Jannetty of their tag team in order to demean these talents and their success when compared to their partners.

Truth be told, there's some extremely capable performers amongst those listed names, and most of them went on to have successful careers once their respective teams were split up.
