Will Ospreay Set For Neck Surgery After Forbidden Door 2025 (AEW News)
AEW's Will Ospreay wasn't fibbing during his promo on this week's Dynamite.
Will Ospreay noted during his in-ring promo on Wednesday's episode of AEW Dynamite that he's not technically cleared to compete at Forbidden Door 2025 this weekend. He then went on to say that he'll need neck surgery at some point in the near future.
According to PWInsider, those comments were "100% legitimate".
Ospreay will need to go under the knife sooner rather than later, and it looks nailed on that he'll be taking time off after Forbidden Door to sort out his neck issues. Previously, the Brit star had disclosed details on herniated discs in his back (C2 and C6) that impact his spinal cord during another interview with Tony Schiavone in late-July.
AEW sources tell PWInsider that it's a matter of when not if on Ospreay's impending surgery. This weekend, he'll take part in a massive 5v5 'Lights Out Steel Cage' match at Forbidden Door - Will teams with Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, Darby Allin and Hiroshi Tanahashi to take on Jon Moxley, Claudio Castagnoli, The Young Bucks and Gabe Kidd.
It's believed that this set piece showdown will headline the pay-per-view. Wrestling Observer boss Dave Meltzer had already mentioned how banged up several workers are heading into the match, but Ospreay is chief amongst them. He'll need to be careful not to exacerbate his problems out there in London's O2 Arena.
The cross-promoted PPV between AEW and New Japan is heading for a legit sell out on Sunday, which will be fabulous news for All Elite kingpin Tony Khan. It doesn't look like there will be too much time for Will to bask in the afterglow of success following Forbidden Door though.
He'll be heading to hospital for corrective surgery.
