Wrestlemania 29: 5 Things We Learned

4. The MidCard Has Mixed Results

The Shield goes over, as they should, with a huge Wrestlemania debut win. WWE has really gotten behind this trio, as well they should: the men are talented and capable, and now it will be even more interesting to see how they fare post-Mania and what their endgame ultimately is. Del Rio and Swagger were a bored yawn and Ryback / Mark Henry was also forgettable: BUT, Ryback hoisting the enormous Henry onto his back and walking around the ring with ease post-match made sitting through this "match" worthwhile. The 8 man mixed tag match was scrapped due to time constraints, no loss there, and our Tag Team Champions were predictably victorious. However, the biggest issue here is the continued mis-use of Dolph Ziggler. He should have cashed in on this, the Grandest Stage of Them All, but instead he's pinned, yet again. Ziggler has paid his dues and his time is past due. The man is an utter workhorse and should not be faulted for being such a good seller and partner to work with. I have no clue where WWE Creative is headed with Ziggler at this point, but his time with the Money in the Bank briefcase is running short. There was no bigger stage than Wrestlemania for him to cash that briefcase in, and any payoff now may feel like his run as the MITB winner has been all for not.
