Wrestling's Dumbest Criminals

7. Vader

Good Morning Kuwait

Strict rules were in place on WWE's talent when they appeared before the media as part of their tour of the Middle East in 1997, so quite wisely, the company picked a man known for his calm incombustibility to field questions alongside the generally taciturn world champ The Undertaker.

During a publicity drop-in on Good Morning Kuwait, Mean Mark placidly dismissed the inevitably ignorant presenter's tired question about wrestling being "fake". Meanwhile, Vader quietly seethed some feet to the Deadman's right.

When it was the Mastodon's turn to be grilled by host Bassam Al Othman, his simmering anger gradually rose to a boil.

"My astute colleague is a very diplomatic individual," he explained, measuredly. "I’m perhaps not so diplomatic."

It was at that point that Vader flipped - quite literally in the case of the poor coffee table - as he took Othman by the tie and bellowed "Does that feel f*cking fake?" 'Taker looked on stoically - most certainly more amused than bemused.

Vader was subsequently carted off by the cops and charged with assault and use of obscene language. Because his infarction happened to fall on a religious holiday, he was forced to spend two weeks rotting in a Kuwaiti jail - in reality, a $600 per night hotel. The poor bairn.

After Vader's F-bomb blued the airwaves, wrestling was unsurprisingly not welcome back in the country for another decade. The felon insisted the whole thing had been pre-planned - but nobody had told the host. Can you imagine anyone going to jail - albeit a ridiculously plush one - to protect the business now?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
