WWE: 10 Best Jumps From The Top Of A Steel Cage

3 &2 .Chris Benoit vs Kurt Angle - Raw (6/11/2001)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t9qDSx8OUnA This was a great match that featured two of the best in ring technicians the WWE has ever seen. We all know the Benoit story, and this is not about that. Angle and Benoit had been feuding for several months at this point, and this was yet another in a long line of spectacular matches these two put on as part of that feud. They'd started after No Way Out, after Angle lost his WWE Championship to the Rock. Angle bested Benoit in a match at Wrestlemania X-7, and they continued the feud through Backlash, which saw Benoit go over Angle in an ultimate submission match. This was to be the final match in the series, and then-general manager William Regal made it for a June night on Raw, and he made it a steel cage match. The match was hot from the opening bell, with Angle taking Benoit out with a double legged take down before throwing him around the ring with multiple bely to belly suplexes. benoit would fight back and the match evened out from here, with each man hitting big suplexes. At one point, the two combatants were standing on the top rope, with Angle trying to climb out of the cage and Benoit right behind him. Benoit reached up and hit a huge German suplex off the rope, with Angle's head bouncing off the mat as they came down. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-WImUsoeAbg After some more back forth, and following a low bow and an Angle Slam, the Olympic gold medalist started making his way to the corner and up to the top rope, the thought of escaping clearly in mind. As he reached the top of the cage, however, Angle crouched down and took off with a picture perfect Moonsault, flipping backwards in the air with the intent of coming down hard, with all the force his body would build in the air, on Benoit and end the match. But that didn't happen. Benoit rolled out of the way at the last chance, causing Angle to slam hard into the mat and bounce about a foot in the air before settling in a heap in the middle of the ring. The two men continued the fight in the ring, trading a succession of punches, chops, and suplexes that got the crowd really going. Suddenly, Benoit had Angle wrapped up tight and hit him with several consecutive German supexes, the grapplers favorite set up to several other big moves. But the Crippler wasn't looking to secure the pinfall. He started for the top of the cage, looking to escape and win this already grueling match. He had one problem, though. Stone Cold Steve Austin, at this point firmly implanted in his heel role and feuding with Benoit, was at the commentator's table for the match and now made his way to the corner where Benoit was trying to escape, steel chair in hand. When Benoit saw that escaping would only cost him more injury, he stood on the top of the cage wall, raised a hand to the crowd, and dove off with a flying headbutt to the heart ofKurt Angle, as Jim Ross expertly called it. Stone Cold was in disbelief at what he'd just seen, and the crowd was going nuts. Both men lay out on the mat, rolling and yelling in pain. It was a beautifully violent move, displaying both grace and aggression at the same time. Angle would go on to win the match, and the feud with Benoit, but this match will always be remembered for the two unbelievable moves we witnessed from the top of that cage.
