4. "Showtime" Eric Young Episode 22
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AdYVks0KgFU Now this was a bit of a stretch for me, as I don't watch TNA wrestling and I couldn't even picture what Eric Young looked like. But someone had recommended this episode, and I am nothing if not a dutiful robot. And good thing too, because Eric Young is a delight! First of all, these two guys got along like long-lost brothers, both having similar interests in the great outdoors, a similar sense of humour, and similar philosophies on wrestling. But that doesn't mean it's a smarmy love-in; Steve Austin says it well himself, "I'm not blowing smoke up your ass - if I thought you sucked, I'd say, 'eh, it's okay.'" Which really sets the tone for how Steve operates: he makes thoughtful observations and he takes a genuine interest in his guests, without any fakery. Austin clearly gets how to put on a good show, and has translated those skills to podcasting quite smoothly. Eric Young is a native of Canada (just down the road from myself, which also made his story more compelling). He has a great self-deprecating humour, is well spoken, and smart. His story of how he got into wrestling shows that he's got an awesome work ethic - while he worked about 25 dark matches for WWE, he has been a mainstay in TNA and I am now keen to get caught up on his work. He also gives some interesting details on his own physiology, which I won't spoil but makes him "a really sh-tty version of Wolverine" - sweet line. This likeable dude shares some hilarious road stories, his take on TNA, and his upcoming work of fiction (!). On top of all that, Eric is the host of a fishing show called Hooked. His stories about what happens behind-the-scenes on this type of program will give you a new appreciation for anglers that have to perform on live TV, in all geographies and climates. I challenge you to come away from this one without becoming a huge fan of "Showtime" Eric Young!
