Entering the arena through a ring of fire, The Brood was an incredibly cool trio that delivered bloodbaths to unsuspecting Superstars for nearly a year. Led by Gangrel and featuring Edge and Christian, the Gothic group captured the imaginations of the audience thanks to a coolness factor that was nearly unmatched. Gangrel was a vampire, Edge and Christian were enigmatic forces within the company. While they started on their own, they eventually joined forces with the Ministry of Darkness in a match that appeared to be made in heaven. Or maybe hell. When differences between the two sides necessitated The Brood's departure from the Ministry, the trio engaged in a rivalry with Mideon and the Acolytes, competing against the Superstars on several occasions throughout the spring of 1999. With Edge and Christian gaining momentum as a traditional tag team, however, The Brood split. Gangrel recruited the Hardy Boyz to form a new incarnation of the group. That version of the Brood would be short-lived. The Brood, like so many of the great trios in the first half of this list, had a short shelf life. Two of the three competitors moved onto bigger and better things, becoming one of the greatest tandems in WWE history, while the leader would fall into obscurity before being released from his contract. Nonetheless, the Brood was a trio that was years ahead of its time and a prime example of what made the Attitude Era television destination programming.
