10. John Cena vs. Shawn Michaels - WrestleMania 23
The main event of WrestleMania 23 saw Tag Team Champion versus Tag Team Champion for the WWE Championship as John Cena completed his back-to-back WrestleMania championship defences against the DX members following his victory over Triple H the previous year. Cena would again come out on top but unlike his match against Triple H he would do so against a bloodied opponent after the contest broke down into a more heated confrontation as Michaels let his frustrations get the better of him. Despite the aggression in the match, Michaels got busted open not at Cena's hand but by the ring post after Cena dodged his shoulder charge. Immediately afterwards Michaels face was covered in blood with the contest only halfway through. The blood would become Michaels motivation for a switch in approach from schooling the champion to piledriving him onto the steel steps upon the realisation he had been busted open. This move caused two gashes on the top of Cena's head that looked legitimate. The WrestleMania 23 main event has the unique honour of being the last WrestleMania match (to date) to contain blood and it was used to elevate Michaels frustration at trying to better his opponent, a point which would be built upon the following night on Raw.
