ECW used to completely own the word 'extreme' back in the day, with wrestlers being set on fire, thrown through tables and skewered with various objects. It was undoubtedly all very ridiculous and unsafe, but which match types would we love to see make a comeback, perhaps just for one night? Extreme Championship Wrestling pushed the envelop for professional wrestling and we'll probably never see that level of punishment and violence again. The first six match types just might stand a slim chance of making a comeback, while the last four have no hope of being ever seen in mainstream wrestling again and are completely 'what if' scenarios.
10. Singapore Cane Match
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1lgRniDpH3o The Singapore cane is an object that ECW made famous in the 90's after being influenced by a news article regarding the caning of American Michael Fay in Singapore and ever since then the weapon has become a force of pain and destruction in professional wrestling. The Sandman may have been synonymous for drinking beer, but he was equally well known for swinging his Singapore cane at various members of the ECW roster. The Singapore Cane Match was just a regular singles match, with the stipulation that the loser would be caned by the winner, though there are various incarnations and deviations (including a Singapore Cane on a Pole match) the original format is the one we'd like to see make a comeback. The most iconic Singapore Cane Match came when bitter rivals The Sandman and Tommy Dreamer faced each other and Dreamer would end up getting caned by The Sandman. Could it work in WWE today? Maybe. ECW created a huge babyface in this match (well, after the match) after Tommy Dreamer took all the punishment The Sandman could dish out, even begging him for more cane shots. "Thank you sir, may I have another". So maybe WWE would tone down the blood, but it could be a good way of getting a character over and it could be an effective way of establishing a relationship between the fans and a wrestler. Plus the Singapore Cane still gets used in WWE occasionally, just recently CM Punk destroyed Paul Heyman on top of the Hell in a Cell structure so the Singapore Cane is still relevant.
