WWE: 10 Most Frustrating Things About Being A WWE Fan In The UK

2. We Haven't Hosted A PPV In Over 20 Years

The last time WWE held a PPV on British shores was in 1992, when Summerslam of that year took place in Wembley Stadium. WWE claims that a crowd of 80,355 was at Wembley that day, which WWE also claims is the third biggest live audience for one of their events in its entire history. The event in itself is also remembered as one of the best PPVs of all time, with memorable matches, topped by the legendary encounter between Bret Hart and British Bulldog that closed the show. Despite that success, WWE has never seen fit to return to the UK for a PPV in the last 22 years (in fact they haven't strayed out of the US or Canada since). The frustrating thing about it is that the UK has amazing modern day crowds, as proved when Raw & Smackdown are filmed here twice a year. The boisterous atmosphere at the Raw immediately after Wrestlemania 29 was partly attributed to the British contingent that stayed behind after going to Wrestlemania. Together they helped Daniel Bryan's 'Yes!' chant get off the ground, famously completely ignored Randy Orton & Sheamus, practically invented Fandangoing and made Dolph Ziggler's Money in the Bank cash-in so incredible - but still the British fans haven't had their dedication rewarded. Obviously, the impracticalities of a British PPV can't be ignored - such as extra cost of shipping, transport, etc., as well as the fact that American audiences might be put off by a taped/delayed PPV - but it would still be a nice reward for British fans. That being said, the introduction of the WWE Network improves the chances of a British PPV, as content takes a more on-demand approach and can be watched on mobile devices and not necessarily on a television, but for WWE it might always be too much of a risk.
