5. Lawrence Taylor - WrestleMania 11
Lawrence Taylor is one of the best NFL players ever that was a first ballot NFL Hall of famer. He was a star Outside Linebacker for the New York Giants that won two Super Bowls and terrorized opposing QB's like no other OLB in history. When Bam Bam Bigelow shoved Taylor as he sat at ringside for the Royal Rumble, it surprised a lot of people. It led to Taylor's match against Bigelow a couple of months later at WrestleMania 11, which ended up as the main event of the show. When WWE signed LT (his famous nickname that was really just his initials together) it was a big deal. The match happened at a time when WWE wasn't doing that great in terms of ratings, attendance at shows and PPV buys. They were trying to find a spark, but they really didn't find it until a couple of years after this when Steve Austin became the man. They went about 12 minutes with Taylor winning the match after a forearm shot off the middle ropes. Taylor put on a very good performance considering it was his first time in the ring. His go to offensive move was the forearm to the jaw, which was fine because he made it look good. It's better to do moves that you look good doing even if you are repeating them. Taylor deserves credit for working his ass off and performing at a high level, but Bigelow is the one that did more of the work. Bigelow was a very good worker for a man of his size. This was about as good of a match as you could expect from these guys. I think where WWE got it wrong is that they put the match on last. It made it seem more important than the WWE Title match earlier in the show. Still, to Taylor's credit he worked hard and showed that he belonged out there. Can't ask much more than that.
