1. Snuka Eats A Coconut
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kZbZseTuQ1I As mentioned before, during the largely cartoonish world of WWE in the early 80s, Piper was an obvious stand out. He pushed the envelope more than anyone at the time and it always felt like he was just on the verge of saying something ridiculously offensive, particularly when he had anyone on the show from a different cultural heritage. His most famous encounter of all time came when Fiji born Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka appeared on Piper's Pit for a second time. Snuka was re-appearing on the show to avenge a first appearance after claiming that Piper didn't give him a chance to speak the last time he was on the show. Rather than let Snuka get revenge, Piper of course took the low road and insulted him worse than ever. He feigned that he wanted to make Superfly feel more at home and produced a bag of props to dress the set. Insulting Snuka's heritage, Piper began to produce island fruits from his bag to make his guest "feel at home." After comparing the island women to a pineapple, he taunted Snuka by offering him a banana in a less than subtle dig at his ethnic background. In a particularly controversial taunt, he apologized for not being able to bring in a tree for Snuka to climb up and down like a monkey. As Snuka grew frustrated, Piper hit him with the ultimate insult and smashed a coconut on his head, reportedly knocking him loopy for real. Snuka crashed through the set and was subjected to even more abuse when Piper force fed him a banana and proceeded to lash him with a leather belt. As Snuka finally came around, he chased Piper towards the locker room only to get a door slammed in his face. This led to a lengthy, bloody and intense feud between the two in various stipulation matches from Fujiwara Strap Matches to Death Matches. It's hard to put into perspective how impactful this single segment was. It got a yearlong feud over in less than five minutes, all based on a personal rivalry rather than over a WWF Championship. It was brave of the WWF to let one of their most popular superstars be shown up so badly by Piper but in the end it elevated both men to an even higher level than before. According to Snuka, if things had gone right then he would have been in Mr. T's place at the first WrestleMania had McMahon not decided to go with a celebrity instead of a wrestler. Nevertheless, both men ended up WWE Legends being inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 1996 and 2005 respectively and their famous altercation will go down in history as one of the best segments of all time.
