WWE: 10 Real Controversies We Want The WWE Network To Cover

5. Flair's Plane Crash

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9VnJjaBAZ1w In October 1975, a plane took off from Charlotte, heading toward Wilmington, North Carolina. On board were Ric Flair, Johnny Valentine, Mr Wrestling, Bob Bruggers and David Crockett heading to an outdoor NWA event at Legion Stadium. As the plane came close to landing, disaster struck when it ran out of gas and crashed into the ground. The pilot was killed in the crash while Johnny Valentine suffered a broken back and was forced to retire from wrestling. A then 26 year old Ric Flair also broke his back in three places and it was expected he would never wrestle again. As we all know, Flair came back to wrestling, smashing all expectations and returning to the ring after just 6 months due to a rigorous therapy schedule and a drastic change of his ring style. Before the crash, Flair was predominantly a brawling style wrestler but in a strange twist of fate, the crash that almost killed him instead turned him into the "Nature Boy" that we all know so well. WWE had Flair briefly talk about the crash on "The Ultimate Ric Flair Collection" released in 2003, though it was more of a bonus feature than an in-depth look at what happened. With Flair back in the fold, the WWE Network would be a great place for an original programme dedicated to recapping what happened that day, while paying tribute to the lives and careers that were lost in the process.
