WWE: 10 Reasons WCW Should Return In 2014

2. Correct The Mistakes Of The Original 'Invasion' Angle

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aip8YIb-fjk Eric Bischoff did one of the greatest angles of all time in 1996 in WCW, he introduced a WWF invasion. It was all scripted of course, but the blurred lines story got over huge. Scott Hall and Kevin Nash kicked it all off by coming in as 'the outsiders', they then teamed with fellow former WWF icon Hulk Hogan. Bischoff christened the group the NWO, and the WCW vs NWO feud did brilliantly in initial creative and commercial success. WWE should have done the story in reverse when they had WCW invade WWF Tv in 2001. It should have been significant WCW wrestlers coming in to invade the WWE. Instead McMahon had secondary WCW talent represented by WWF man Shane McMahon coming in to lose to WWF talents. Fan interest was huge at first to see WCW vs WWF, but quickly the fans lost interest as McMahon booked the story wrong. Nevertheless, the WWF WCW Invasion PPV became the most successful non-Wrestlemania ppv in company history at 770,000 buys. That demonstrates the huge audience and money that WWE could have grasped if they had properly booked and ran with this angle. If WWE was to kick start the invasion again they should give it credibility by having the likes of Goldberg, Hogan and Sting spearhead it with newer recruits working under them. They could hijack Smackdown and fully re brand it as Nitro. WCW and WWE could fight it out for a while, before WCW is eventually formally established as a full co-functioning brand. WWE would rake the money in from an initial war and eventual establishment of a new brand. And really, what better ideas do they have right now? Big Show vs Randy Orton is hardly the epic storyline to spike ratings.
