WWE: 10 Reasons Why Michael Cole Needs To Be Removed As The 'Voice'

7. He Never Focuses On The Match At Hand

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=usZWTrITi4s As I pointed out in my intro to this article, great colour commentary can make or break a match. I have watched some of the most boring, slow matches in the history of pro wrestling but you wouldn't know it from the way the announcers were calling it. And it was their commentary that actually made some of these less than stellar matches remembered as being awesome. If I had a dollar for every time I tuned into a classic match only to be disappointed by the performers but completely transfixed on the unique observations on whoever was announcing at the time, I'd be me a pretty rich man. And on the other side of the spectrum we have Michael Cole, who can take an absolutely classic match and completely reduce it to nothing more than a toilet break before the main event.. I mean, think about it, if the commentator is not interested in what is happening on the mat, why should we? If the commentator is more interested in what is going to be happening in 2 hours time, why should we stay tuned until then? This is why I am adamant that ratings would rise if they just sacked him. The WWE is on the precipice of something as great as the Attitude era was and we have seen some dead set classic matches not only on ppv but every week on RAW, Smackdown or whatever. But you wouldn't know it the way Cole talks about it. This is especially prevalent in the Diva matches, but more on that later. And it is not just squash matches he does this for either. I have heard him NOT talk about Tag Team, Intercontinental or United States championship matches. His job description is seemingly "make sure to push nothing except for the main event" and that's it. I mean, how can anyone talk about what John Cena plans are at the end of the show when Dolph Ziggler is in the ring? Or constantly mention the high stakes the main event has while CM Punk is showcasing why he is the best in the world? I am sorry but you can't take your eyes off of these guys for one second in the ring unless you are purposely avoiding it, which Michael Cole does week in and week out. The current rivalry between Alberto Del Rio and Christian is a prime example. These two have put on some bonafide classics as of late but does anyone realize this? Hell no, because at the time Cole was too busy discussing what John Cena is up to or how Vince doesn't like the beard. And again, I ask you, if he can't care about it, why on Earth should we?

Passions in life: Movies, Music and Wrestling....My childhood was spent growing up in the "Outback" of Australia (I'm a little bit country) and my adulthood resided within the city limits (I'm a little bit rock and roll), so you could say that I am the best (or worst) of both worlds. A 6 foot 7 ex wannabe pro wrestler (whose career was cut short due to a busted back, NOT caused by wrestling) & muso who has a precocious cat & a habit of doing the wrong thing but for the right reasons. The story of my life???? All demos, no albums ;)
