WWE: 10 Things From WWE History We Still Need Closure From

6. The Surprising Departure Of Jim Ross

In September of 2013, fans were hit with the very unexpected news that Jim Ross had retired from WWE. While the industry's most famous announcer claimed that it was time to move on, the truth is that he may not have left of his own accord. The company's 2K14 game press conference featured Ross as the host as well as a panel of well known Superstars. One of those Superstars was The Nature Boy Ric Flair, who appeared to be having more than a good time at the event. It was thought of by some at the time that Flair was drunk and perhaps even Ross was too. Though JR denied being intoxicated and it was never revealed that anything inappropriate had happened, Ross either walked away or was forced to walk away from the company not long after the press conference took place. But for many WWE fans, this was not the way JR's career should have ended. For several years leading up to his departure, Ross had all but been removed from the public eye in WWE. Michael Cole had been elevated as the company's top play-by-play commentator while Ross was used more behind the scenes and very rarely on TV. He was mostly brought back when the company needed to use him and it never meant a return to the main chair at ringside. But at some point, Jim Ross must return. The peak of his Hall of Fame career came during arguably the best era in WWE and he has called some of the biggest matches in pro wrestling history. Fans want Ross to come back and at some point he should.
