WWE: 10 Times Triple H Saw Something He Liked And Booked Himself Into It

9. Eugene

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_frNRiHYUo It might seem hard to believe now, but in the summer of 2004, the 'special needs character' of Eugene was getting the best reactions of anyone in WWE. He was never meant to be a star, but the great acting from Nick Dinsmore got the act over as the biggest babyface of the period. Dinsmore actually managed to turn a tasteless gimmick into a hilarious and touching story. Make no mistake about it, Dinsmore was also a hell of an in-ring talent. Seeing how hot Eugene had become, Triple H couldn't resist getting involved. Despite being involved in a title feud with Chris Benoit at the time, Hunter started featuring in segments with Eugene. The storyline was that Hunter was taking advantage of the naive star, he made him part of Evolution, only to turn on him in a vicious beatdown. Some of these segments were uncomfortable, although at other times it was hilarious to see Hunter and Orton hamming it up as friends of Eugene. It all culminated in a SummerSlam match of Triple H vs Eugene, where you guessed it, Hunter beat the popular emerging star. He had seen a star booming in popularity, got himself in on the limelight, and walked away with the win. Eugene's career never really covered, his popularity went downward.
